A brass bead is a great way to add weight to a fly. Fish a bead head nymph under an indicator for trout or high sticking for steelhead in slow calm pools, add a brass bead to a 2-3" streamer and fish it in rivers with a slow steady current or in shallow lakes. If you need more weight, wind on 5-8 wraps of lead or leadfree wire behind the bead when tying the fly.
